What Are The Safest Family Cars?
When purchasing a new car, we are regularly asked ‘what the safest family cars’ by many of our customers.
There have been huge improvements to the safety of cars over recent years, with technology such as lane departure warnings, adaptive headlights and traction control, complementing the more traditional safety features such as ISO Fix and anti-lock brakes (ABS).
Many cars here in the UK have been given safety ratings by Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Programme) and here’s some of our bestselling family favourites that have came out on top in recent years.
Safest Large Family Car - BMW 3 Series
The BMW 3 Series is an iconic car that boasts a sporty exterior whilst still being practical, making it a highly popular choice for families.
The BMW 3 Series scored 97% for its adult occupancy protection - one of the highest scores that has been awarded. It also scored 87% for both child occupancy and vulnerable road user protection, leading to Euro NCAP awarding an overall rating of five starts.
Safest Large Family Car Runner Up - Skoda Octavia
Although the Skoda Octavia car narrowly missed a five star rating, it was very close and as such was awarded as the runner up in this category, with an adult occupancy protection score of 92% and a child protection score of 88%. This particular car is well-known for its reliability and spacious interior making it a highly popular choice for families.
Safest Small Family Car - Mercedes CLA
As with the BMW 3 Series, the Mercedes CLA was also awarded five stars within the small car category, with an adult occupancy score of 96% and child occupancy and pedestrian safety both achieving 91%.
The CLA offers style and all of the quality you would expect from a Mercedes Benz. In the year prior to this award, the A-Class was announced as the winner in this category, which says a lot about the brand as a whole.
Safest Supermini Family Car - Renault Clio
Again, the Renault Clio received a well awarded five stars, boasting a 95% score in adult occupancy safety. This car is highly efficient to run and can be purchased at a low monthly cost, and is still spacious for a car in this category.
Safest Supermini Car Runner Up - Audi A1
One of the most popular sellers here at cartime, we wanted to include the Audi A1, which came second to the Renault Clio in this category. The Audi A1 is renowned for its sporty exterior and being cost effective to run, and received a rating of 95% and 85% for adult occupancy and child occupancy safety, respectively.
