How You Can Save Thousands Buying January’s Best-Selling Cars at cartime

A: Olivia Hall

The latest figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers (SMMT) have revealed the best-selling cars in the UK for January. With more than 115,000 new cars registered in the first month of 2022, it marked an improvement from last year as the country comes out of Covid-19 restrictions.

However, with a continued short supply of semi-conductor computer chips, which are needed for cars, sales of certain models have been affected for some time now but there are some runaway sales successes and here are last month’s best sellers – and how you can save both time and money by buying a used car from cartime.

1.     Kia Sportage (3,458 Registrations)

The mid-size SUV is a favourite with British consumers and for us here at cartime. With a good variety of engines on offer the model was the seventh best-selling car in the UK in 2021. A new-generation Kia Sportage has only just gone on sale in the UK, but it has already gone to the top of the sales chart, with Kia doing the same as a brand as well. At cartime we always have a good supply of the Sportage so look at our current stock here.

2.     Ford Puma (2,608 Registrations)

The Puma small crossover SUV appears to have taken over from the Fiesta as Ford’s most popular car. It finished as the eighth best seller last year, no doubt thanks to providing fun handling, great practicality and a combination of mild-hybrid engines. While we don’t have any Puma models in stock currently, we have a variety of different used Ford cars which could take your fancy. You can find them here.

3.     Kia Niro (2,372 Registrations)

Taking the bronze-medal for January is another Kia, this time the smaller Niro crossover. Only available in electric, plug-in hybrid or hybrid forms, it has become another hit for the South Korean manufacturer as more people choose alternative fuel vehicles than ever before. Luckily if you are looking to save on buying new, we have used Kia cars in stock. You can find them by clicking here.

4.     MINI Hatch (2,313 Registrations)

A British icon, the MINI has been among the best sellers in its home country for years and sales at the start of 2021 are no different. Available in 3 or 5-door and variety of engines, the MINI offers drivers plenty of fun in a premium package and the recent introduction of an electric version has only made the little Brit even more appealing. There are always lots of them to choose from at cartime and you can browse through what we have to offer here.

5.     Vauxhall Corsa (2,285 Registrations)

A favourite with British motorists for nearly three decades now, the Vauxhall Corsa was the UK’s best-selling car last year, usurping the Ford Fiesta after 12 years at the top. With low insurance groups the Corsa remains a popular buy for young drivers and the latest generation is also moving with the times and offers an electric variant for the first time. You can check out the used Vauxhall Corsas we have in stock here

6.     Hyundai Tucson (2,236 Registrations)

The fourth SUV to make this list (but not the last!), the Tucson is another hot seller in Britain and like the Kia Sportage, which it shares the same platform architecture with, it has recently been updated with a new model. It offers plenty of practicality with good value as well and its available with mild hybrid, hybrid and plug-in hybrid, as well as conventional petrol.  We have plenty of used Hyundai Tucson cars including the previous diesel variants as well. You can find them all by clicking here.

7.     Vauxhall Mokka (2,194 Registrations)

Offering sharp styling and good value for money, the small crossover Mokka is the second Vauxhall on this list, replacing the perennial Vauxhall Astra as the brand's second best seller. The latest variant was introduced last year and offers petrol, diesel and electric variants for buyers as well as some colour paint finishes. We have lots of used Vauxhall Mokka X and Mokka models available at cartime and you can search through them here.

8.     Ford Focus (1,822 Registrations)

First introduced in 1998, for many years the Ford Focus was the UK’s best seller and now in its fourth generation it is still one of the most popular family hatchbacks. With diesel, petrol and electric variants on offer, as well as an estate variant, it is still one of the best-driving family cars you can get your hands on. Want a Focus without spending thousands more on a new one? Check out our used Ford Focus stock here.

9.     Volkswagen T-Roc (1,813 Registrations)

Volkswagen was the UK’s top-selling car brand last year, knocking Ford off the top after nearly 50 years, and the T-Roc is one of the cars to contribute heavily to the sales. A desirable, practical and good-looking family crossover, it comes with lots of variants with something to suit all tastes. If you fancy a T-Roc as your next car, why not check out our stock used Volkswagen T-Roc cars out by here and save money buying used instead.

10.   Toyota Corolla (1,767 Registrations)

Completing the Top 10 is the Toyota Corolla which remains the worldwide best-selling car of all time. Offering great reliability and practicality, the latest generation has sharpy styling with plenty of engine and trim options for customers and it comes with a good amount of standard equipment as well. If you want to be one of the millions to have owned a Corolla you can browse the cartime stock here
